3 Summer Cocktails You Have to Try
Classic Margarita for One
TEQUILA, TRIPLE SEC, FRESH LIME & SALT
Recipe from Jaime Oliver
If you’re anything like me, you struggle to go past the exhilarating promise of the margarita. Whether you’re a traditionalist, or like to mix things up with spice (a little chilli goes a long way), the margarita is a classic cocktail that adds a delightful element of zing to any summer event.
-
1 part Tequila
-
½ part Triple Sec Liqueur
-
1 whole Lime, juiced
-
1 pinch of Salt
-
Cubed Ice
Step 1. Fill your glass with ice to chill
Step 2. Put lots of ice and all of the ingredients into a shaker. Shake hard for about 30 seconds
Step 3. To get the full experience, run a lime wedge around the rim of your glass before rolling the rim in salt (if you like a bit of spice, add chilli flakes to the salt for an extra kick)
Step 4. Double Strain the mixture into the glass (tea infusers come in handy here)
3 Ingredient Moscow Mule
VODKA, GINGER BEER & LIME (serves one)
Recipe from Cookie and Kate
Sometimes it’s hard to know what flavours you’re craving when it comes to choosing your drink of choice. That’s why we love Moscow Mules! They strike the perfect yet near impossible balance between spicy, sweet and strong. What more could you want?
-
2 ounces Vodka (or your go-to liquor if vodka isn’t your thing)
-
½ ounce fresh Lime Juice (about ½ medium lime)
-
4 ounces of Ginger Beer (the best are the ones that have the most pronounced fresh ginger flavour)
Step 1. Fill the cup of your choice with ice (for the right aesthetic, use a copper mug)
Step 2. Pour in the vodka & Lime Juice first, adding the Ginger Beer last (add more to taste)
Step 3. Gently swirl with a spoon to mix
Step 4. Serve with a wedge of lime (mix things up with mint for extra taste)
Traditional Sangria
RED WINE, BRANDY, LEMONADE & FRUIT
Recipe from Olive Magazine
There is nothing quite like sipping on a sweet Sangria under the afternoon sun (bonus points if you’re poolside). This classic summer drink may not be classed as a cocktail, but it’s the perfect guest to bring to summer BBQ’s with friends!
-
About 2 Oranges, roughly chopped
-
Dry, light Red Wine (a bottle should do the trick)
-
About 500gMixed fruit (we like to use Strawberries, Peaches, Pineapples)
-
100ml Brandy (Tequila or rum makes for a great alternative)
-
500 ml Lemonade
Step 1. Put the Oranges, Wine and Brandy in a large jug and mix
Step 2. Place in the fridge for one hour
Step 3. Add the fruit and top up with Lemonade
Step 4. Stir well and serve over ice
Remember to have fun, get creative and as always, to drink responsibly.
